There are many known causes of ED. Some of them are more common than others and can cause a lasting problem. But if you fail to get an erection once, it’s nothing you need to worry about. Chances are you can blame your failure to perform on one of these four unusual causes of erectile dysfunction.
1. You’re Under a Lot of Stress
Despite its negative effects on our health, stress has become an integral part of our daily lives. Its impact is so extensive that it can even play a part in lowering your libido. When you’re under stress, your body produces a hormone called cortisol. This hormone blocks the production of testosterone, which makes it difficult to get an erection.
2. You’re Taking Medications
Low libido is a known side effect of many common drugs. For example, antidepressants and blood pressure meds can all diminish your sexual appetite. To fight these problems, you can talk to your doctor to prescribe you a lower dose. Also, there may even be some alternatives that won’t affect your libido in this way.
3. You’re in a New Relationship
Having sex for the first time in a relationship is one of the most common causes of erectile dysfunction. It happens because you’re under a lot of stress to finally get to meet your new partner up close and personal. Your body has to deal with this stress, so it produces a lot of adrenaline. Getting an erection is next to impossible in these situations, but the symptoms will disappear rather fast.
4. You Had Too Much to Drink
You don’t have to be an alcoholic to feel the negative effects of alcohol on your body. Only two or three glasses are enough for your body to start acting weird. Alcohol disrupts the blood flow to your penis, which renders you unable to get an erection. To avoid this, don’t drink before going to bed. If the occasion calls for a drink, do so in moderation and stop after your first glass.
